ペアダンスは、人と人とのコミュニケーションには最適なものだと思います。話す必要がいらないというのも大きな要素です。知らない人に声をかけるというのは大変勇気がいる人も多かと思います。
しかし、少しでもダンスを学んだ経験をしたのであれば、この人と話をしたいと思ったら、手を差し伸べて、ただ踊ってみてはいかがでしょうか？それだけでいいのです。するとどんなに話しやすくなることか。踊っている最中でもいいし、1曲踊り終わってから「もう一曲いかがですか？」と尋ねて、相手がOKであれば（大抵の場合はOKです）、すぐ軽く話をしてもでもいいですね。会話はスムーズに運ぶと思います。なぜなら一曲手を取り合ってスキンシップが生まれ、踊っている間に二人の間の壁が少しずつなくなっていくからだと思います。
何度かお見合いパーティでダンスを担当させて頂いたことがあります。いつものようにメレンゲ、そしてサルサを踊っていただいたあとの様子を伺うと、多くのカップルが話し合っている光景が見られました。そのパーティの担当者曰く、どんなゲームやクッキング等のイベントよりもペアダンスをやった後が多くの男女が話し合うのに時間がかからないと。
シャイで人通しの肌の触れ合いが日常ではない日本人の性格からみても、社交ダンス人口が多いというものうけてます。誰とでも何処でも気軽に踊れるアメリカンスタイルダンスを是非もっと広げましょう。
